Just added a 12” vinyl LP by Saloma & P. Ramlee from 1960. A compilation album, “Suara Emas Dari Malaya (Golden Voices From Malaya)” featured P. Ramlee on Side 1 and Saloma on Side 2. However, Saloma made a brief appearance at the top of track A6 “Tudung Periuk”. There’s two known versions of this LP, the one highlighted here was for local consumption by EMI Columbia and another for the EMI Capitol series “Capitol of the World” for US and International distributions. That edition was retitled “Malaya - Ramlee and Saloma Sing Popular Music of the Far East”.

This was their second collaboration out of three and the most successful with the hit “Jerat” which was also the album title for this promo release with only eight tracks. The retail version on cassette tape spooled three extra songs and the album title renamed "Bag 2" (short for Bahagian 2 or Volume 2). As far as I can tell, with the exception of “Jerat” and “Pelabuhan Cinta”, all other songs were never released on digital or CD format.

Just added an LP by Rahimah Rahim from 1990. “Hati Yang Rapuh - Dari Filem Hati Bukan Kristal” was jointly produced by Johari Salleh, Rahim Othman and the title track by Ooi Eow Jin. Perhaps her only album with New Southern Records (NSR) and what supposed to be a swansang/farewell album to her fans after two decades in the entertainment industry. In 2003, she decided to return with an album “Suatu Memori” with one new song and reworked nine of her previous hits.

Just added a CD by Sheqal or real name Shahrin Salehuddin from 1991. “Pudar Yang Tersirat Pasrah” was his second studio album with producer Manan Ngah which offered more pop-oriented arrangements than his debut LP a year before. Featuring “Pasrah” and “Seloka Anak Cucu” as the main drivers. IMHO, “Silap Siapa” is the best track here with worlds written by Sheqal himself. Note: There was no LP release for this album.

His music career was launched by producer Manan Ngah who wanted a change from his previous pop outputs (Fran, Sudirman, Dato’ Shake, etc). Although by all means not the first to introduce the Nusantara/Pop Traditional genre, this album proven to be a go-to for current research on the subject prompted by the album title "Balada Nusantara Menampilkan Sheqal". This LP version ignored two tracks made available on the cassette tape and CD releases namely the minus one and instrumental version of "Cinta Nusantara". However, they are included here as "bonus tracks" for your listening pleasure ヅ.
